ARTIST STATEMENT carolyn block rasche, Cold Wax Medium and Oil Artist, Representational and Abstract

When I was a child, I loved painting, playing with friends, water activities, anything related to horses, and dancing. My activities as an adult are similar. In my art, you will see themes of connection, nature, the beauty and sensuality of horses, the peace of the beach, and the pain and joy of living. I am in my 70’s and I am retiring from a lifelong profession of clinical psychology and working with those who have had to deal with trauma in their life.
A few years ago I discovered cold wax medium, mixed with oil. This has been fascinating for me as an artist. I spent many layers on my painting looking for interesting abstract compositions and a pleasing color palette. The painting may stand as an abstract or I may paint a more respresentational image on top. I am attracted to luminosity, texture, and pops of color.
